About: Jazzy joined our herd in 2023 on partial lease and became a full time program horse in 2024, and is owned by Kelly Kidd. Jazzy has previous experience as a childrens hunter/jumper pony. She is the sweetest girl, and the smallest member of our herd at only 12.2 hands. She is a wonderful mount for young riders who may be nervous around the larger horses.

Olive
Registered Name: Olive
Birth Year: 2013 approximately
Breed: Mustang
Color: Red/Brown Roan
About: SBYEC took on Olive in 2024, a mustang that we rescued with the intention of possibly using her as a school horse. Through our care and feed management, she has gained around 150+ pounds and exposure to humans and training. Kids in our 4-h program (and their parents) have had the opportunity to witness her weight and strength increase. During monthly club meetings, kids had the opportunity to measure Olive with a weight tape and record it: as time went on they tracked the steady increase in Olive’s weight. They also estimated the weight gained in her hindquarters, shoulders and neck. This very real, visual example of what proper care in equine management can do has impacted those in our program: they have seen what neglect can do to a horse, along with positive changes that proper care can bring.
Olive has grown from a very shy, nervous, thin and neglected horse to a more confident, expressive and healthy animal. Our resident trainer has entirely volunteered her time to train her, and we were able to get a sponsor to cover her monthly costs while she remains at our facility. Olive can now walk, trot and canter under the saddle. She has started beginning jumping, and appears to LOVE it. We continue to watch her grow and gain confidence. She is a very intuitive, soulful horse who connects with those around her.

Lark
Show Name: Meadowlark
Birth Year: 2015
Breed: Haflinger
Color: Palomino
About: Lark is a per-use member of the Silver Buckle herd that joined the program in 2024 and is owned by the Overbagh family. Lark has been boarded at the Silver Buckle since 2023 where she has been an ongoing 4-h project horse. She is a retired brood mare originally purchased from an auction. Starting from having a difficult time cantering to joining the lesson program to showing in 4-h, Lark has been a steady horse for kids at the Buckle. She is a mare with a funny personality, loves people, loves food more, is pretty bombproof and definitely makes you work for everything. She loves trail rides, going over some low jumps from time to time, practicing dressage, attempting trail, and is usually up for anything, unless it’s gaming, which she hates.
